I am sure that we all miss the illustrated children books from our childhood. What happened with them? Seems like people don’t value and enjoy books that much nowadays. Since Ipads came out, ebooks pushed real books in the background. But this fact can’t stop me loving the traditional paper copies with their magnificent colorful illustrations. Yesterday i was rummaging though our small library at home and found some books my mother readed me when i was a kid. I tried to find more information about these wonderful illustrators on the internet, but couldn’t find much…The reproductions i’ve found were either too small or with bad quality. So i grabbed the books and scanned some illustrations myself. I selected 9 illustrations, although all of them were fantastic. Maybe in some other publication will post more. Take a look at these masterpieces and try to recall how they influenced your imagination. Will never forget those days…
These funny illustrations are drawn by the famous bulgarian illustrator Ivan Dimov (Иван Димов), and the book is written by Valeri Petrov (Валери Петров). It was hard putting these, had to remove my childish pen scribbles over the image. Thank god there is Photoshop
I am sure you all admire the famous italian illustrator Libico Maraja. He had illustrated numerous children books and magazines.
And the last one is my favorite Jan Kudlacek. The book is called “Wedding in the lake” (Svatba v rybnice). A wonderful story by Riha Bohumil and very expressive illustrations by Jan Kudlacek. It comes from Czech Repubic. The artwork seemed so tasty to me that i even wanted to grab the book and eat it with the covers. I still wonder what media Jan used for these and i guess it’s distemper colours.
Give your guesses if you think otherwise.
